About The Rock Restaurant
The Rock sits on what is known as a tidal island off Michamvi Pingwe beach. It rises above the sand at low tide, when guests can walk to it along the shoreline, but becomes an island at high tide, when a small boat ferries diners across the short stretch of water. After climbing a wooden staircase to reach the entrance, diners enjoy unobstructed views of the Indian Ocean from one of 12 cozy tables beneath a Makuti palm tree roof. The restaurant serves both lunch and dinner, so parties can time their meal reservations to match their desired tide level. Since opening in 2011, The Rock has transcended its status as a mere restaurant to become a global symbol of barefoot luxury, preserving the rugged soul of the coral stone while offering a sophisticated fusion of local flavors and European culinary precision.
